Tips for Losing the Most Stubborn Pounds
Here are several tips that will help you shed that unwanted weight and create a more healthy and attractive figure. Increase Protein When you diet, keep your protein at 55% of your calories. This will help you maintain your muscle mass and keep your metabolism elevated. Eat low-fat protein sources like chicken breasts, egg whites, and fish. Eat 75%
When you sit down to eat, look at your plate and leave 25%, eating only 75% and thereby cutting as many as 300 calories from every meal.
Lift Some Weights
Do a small 20 minute program of lifting weights twice a week along with cardiovascular exercise to build up muscle strength, replacing fat with muscle.
Move Around More
An obese person spends an average of 2.5 hours more daily in a chair than a thin person. Try walking back and forth while talking on a cell or cordless phone, use the steps rather than the elevator, and park farther away and walk to your destination.
Weigh Yourself Monthly
Don't weigh yourself too often and become discouraged by the up and down variations from day to day. Weigh yourself at the same time every month to better see long term trends in your weight.
Buy A Pedometer
This is a very accurate way to make sure you take at least 10,000 steps a day to help you reach and maintain your weight loss goals as you walk to do your various errands and activities.
Have Your Thyroid Tested
If you are adding weight, have joint and muscle aches, have unusual facial puffiness, or are unusually tired, this could be the sign of a sluggish thyroid slowing down your metabolism, causing weight gain. This can be remedied by taking the right medications.
Reduce Stress
When you are stressed, your adrenal gland generates the cortisol stress hormone, which increases your appetite and triggers release of the insulin fat-storing hormone, causing your body to hold onto fat, even if you are eating less.
But often, stress makes you overeat comfort foods like chocolate, ice cream, potato chips, cookies and donuts. Those high carbohydrate goodies raise your serotonin levels, boosting your mood in a form of self-medication. Salty snacks raise blood pressure, which also raises cortisol levels, contributing to a vicious cycle of overeating.
To break this cycle, you should set a fixed eating schedule and stick to it. Schedule your three meals and three snacks throughout the day so you always have something to eat every three or four hours. Savor every bite instead of gulping down too much before your brain tells you that you are full. Regular exercise and relaxing meditation can also relieve your stress.

Don't Let Your Gym Membership Go To Waste
I bought my first gym membership when I turned 19 years old. I chose a lifetime membership from a local canadian franchise. After all, I enjoyed going to the gym and all of my friends at that time went to the same one. I just knew I will be able to make use of it for the rest of my life. And what a sweet deal, I could just pay a maintenance fee of under $10 a month after the third year!
Statistics say that a gym membership is the least used membership. You pay your monthly dues every single month for what? So that when you are ready to get serious about losing weight that it will be there when you need it? A close friend of mine told me that this is why he still has a gym membership. He's been a member of the same gym for about 20 years and used it for 1/10th of the time.
Sounds familiar? A lot of people join fitness gyms for several reasons - to stay in shape, to lose weight and to have a healthy lifestyle. In my case, the gym rep was great in promising me a better, sexier body for less than a dollar a day. However, that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow just does not materialize on its own. You have to work hard at getting the desired results. Even the motivation of knowing that $30 is coming off my bank account every single month was not enough to get me using that gym as often as I should.
I have heard every excuse as to why people do not go to the gym even though they have a membership. Here's been some of mine:
I'm feeling lazy today
Really, I don't even have an hour to spare
I have to work
I just can't fit it in my schedule
I had to wait for a wake-up call in order to motivate me. I woke up one day at 180 pounds at 5'2". At this point, my weight problem really was not an issue anymore compared to the onset of depression and health issues. It was much more harder at this time to say I am going to the gym and I am going to make it work. But I did it. It's all because I decided that I need to invest time on me.
And it was great that I still had the lifetime membership....
Sure. We all lead busy lives. But let me ask you - why wait until you really need the lifetime membership? What prevents you from starting today? And I mean today. Not tomorrow. Go grab your organizer and start planning your next ten workout schedules. Invest time on yourself. After all, you only get once chance to live your life. Why not kick some ass while you are at it?

How To Eat Less Chocolate
Chocolate contains important minerals, such as potassium and magnesium. It also contains vitamins B1, B2, D and E. It even contains antioxidants, substances that protect against cancer and old age. But let's not fool ourselves, you can get all these benefits in other foods: you don't have to eat chocolate to get these important nutrients. There's nothing wrong though with chocolate in moderation, but the key phrase here is 'in moderation', because unfortunately many people find it difficult to eat chocolate in moderation. If you're one of these people, try taking a good zinc supplement. Many people find a regular intake of zinc, reduces their chocolate craving - you need to look for a zinc supplement that contains 10 mg to 15 mg of elemental zinc, and take one each day. Tea, coffee and alcohol interfere with the absorption of zinc, so make sure you leave a gap between taking your zinc supplement and drinking any of these.
Zinc is a vitally important nutrient, so taking it is likely to have other positive health benefits. Adequate levels of zinc are vital for the immune system, for general skin health, as well as for rapid healing of burns and wounds. Zinc is important for vision, and your senses of taste and smell. It has a role in fertility and prostate health.
Enjoying a small amount of chocolate with a high cocoa solid content ( preferably 65% or more) as part of a normal diet is, for most people, perfectly acceptable, but do not let the chocolate replace more nutrient-dense foods like fruit, vegetables, seeds and nuts.

Body For Life - Take The Diet Software Challenge
I remember the days when I had to input my Weight Watchers statistic into the notebook that came with my program. Or trying to find the time from my hectic life to make my support group meetings. Dieters of today have got it easy, companies such as Jenny Craig, Diet.com, and Ediets have all the tools you need to be successful in their programs online - everything from weight loss tips to finding a diet buddy.
Computers and the internet has definitely made the process faster and quicker when we search for information on line. Anything related to diet you will guarantee to find. Have you considered all the possibilities that are available to you in your quest for the ideal body? Most drugs are taken orally and dosage intervals may be inconvenient. Some drugs are partly destroyed or neutralized in the stomach, intestine or liver before reaching the bloodstream. Accordingly, a higher dose is needed to ensure efficacy, which in turn may increase the risk of side effects.
Doctors around the world are calling these diet patches "the delivery system of the future" because it has been discovered that a high absorption rate of many supplements can be achieved when delivered through the skin. The reason for this is when supplements are delivered via the skin, they are absorbed directly into the blood stream, initially bypassing the liver, stomach and intestine. The result can mean as much as 95% of the supplement getting to the cells where they are needed.
Conversely, studies have shown when some substances are taken orally, as little as 5% makes it to the cells where they are needed. This is because of the stomach, liver and digestive system excreting and discarding much of the substances taken orally.

Are You An Emotional Eater?
All of us experience occasional emotional eating. Celebrating with food is what birthday parties, holiday parties and cookouts are all about. Sometimes, however, emotional eating becomes something else, something that can lead to serious physical and emotional imbalance in our lives. Using food to cope with stress, grief, loneliness and boredom causes a destructive cycle that becomes an unconscious behavior. This behavior is very difficult to change and if left unchecked can lead to obesity and other forms of weight-related illnesses. Emotional eaters are never satisfied no matter how many calories they consume. This leads to more and more weight gain, usually complicating the emotional reasons for eating in the first place. The excess weight then becomes almost impossible to lose.
WARNING SIGNS OF EMOTIONAL EATING
*Eating when not physically hungry.
*Eating when bored, angry, sad, or anxious.
*Eating too fast.
*Eating until uncomfortably full.
*Eating immediately after coming home from work.
*Feeling disgust or guilt after overeating.
ARE YOU AN EMOTIONAL EATER?
If you experience any of the following more than occasionally, you may be an emotional eater:
*You think about food a lot.
*You eat when you are stressed (sad, bored, anxious, depressed, etc.)
*You binge eat.
*You eat even if you are not hungry.
*You feel guilty and ashamed of yourself and your eating habits.
*You try to lose weight but are always unsuccessful.
*You do not feel in control of your eating.
TIPS TO OVERCOME EMOTIONAL EATING.
If you think you are an emotional eater, there are ways to overcome it. The suggestions below can help you:
*When you reach for something to eat, stop and ask yourself if you are hungry or if you are upset. If you are upset, why are you upset?
*If you are upset, do not swallow it. If someone has upset you, let that person know they have upset you and that you will not tolerate it any more. Deal with it right away.
*Focus on the solution to your problem, not the affect. Focusing on the problem will not help you solve it. By focusing on the solution to the problem, you will not be stressing about the problem itself.
*Make yourself, not a diet, responsible for what you eat. Dieting can easily lead to emotional eating and will not address the core reason for being overweight.
*Focus on feeling better. Start eating healthier foods and getting a little bit of exercise. The result will be an almost immediate sense of feeling better.
*Take up a new hobby (or an old one). Knit, crochet, work jigsaw puzzles, play games with your kids, take a long leisurely walk.
*You are in control of your life. Stop thinking about food. Get out and LIVE!
Remember, to solve emotional eating, you must change the behavior that is causing it. The next time you reach for food because you are upset, stop and think! Get out of the kitchen and go take a walk, read a book, listen to music, or call a friend; whatever makes you feel better.

"Sweetie, Does This Dress Make Me Look Fat?" The Crash Diet
Chubby Hubby doesn't even have to answer that one. He better not! The worst part is that we know the answer. In our hearts that dress is perfect for the big event. We also have eyes, and can see our B and B, (butt and belly) is not. Here we go again with the time-honored solution - the crash diet.
The crash diet is the most tempting of all diets why? Because it works. The problem with it is that we are applying a short-term solution, to a long-term problem. Crash diets work in the short run because they involve the intake of meager amounts of food (if any), which does not have substantial nutrition value.
Sometimes we're depriving the body of essential vitamins and nutrients. The sexy allure of the crash diet is that when we stop eating, and starve ourselves, weight will quickly disappear. That may be true... but at what cost.
Any diet where so few calories are taken and you short change your bodies need for energy is dangerous. Watch out for dizziness, being uncoordinated and exaggerated sleepiness. Diets that allow no fat can also be bad for you. A certain amount of fat in your diet (about 30% of total calories) is important. Although a low-fat diet may be ok, avoid eating a diet completely free of fat. Some diets eliminate needed certain food groups which is unhealthy. Chocolate is not an essential food group…let me think about that though.
Here's what happens when we starve ourselves to lose those extra pounds:
· When you go into starvation mode on a crash diet, the body reacts by making itself more efficient at storing fat.
· In general, starvation slows down your metabolism and in an effort to conserve what little nutritional value its getting.
· When we resume normal eating habits the body continues to conserve energy for quite some time in 'efficiency mode'. As you take in more food it is less efficient at handling it. It takes awhile to get up to speed, then you gain weight even faster.
· When you do go on a crash diet you need to keep reminding yourself that it is a short-term solution. Try not to be tempted to use it for a substantial length of time.
· When you are on a crash diet it's very important to take regular vitamin supplements, carbohydrates and proteins in balance.
Simply cutting down on processed breads, sugars, soda, candy, and snacks will dramatically decrease your total caloric intake. Smaller meals taken with greater frequency keep your body running at peak calorie burning performance levels.
The long-term solution is to find a diet that has been properly researched, has proven results, and most importantly, allows you to eat foods that you can enjoy. This will increase your chances of sticking to it.
Just exercising more and eating healthy foods can help you stay in shape and achieve a healthy weight. But if you are concerned about your body's size, shape or think you need to lose weight, bring in the professionals and talk with your doctor or a registered dietitian.
I know this is not the death knell for quickly trying to lose five or 8 lbs. to fit into that perfect dress this weekend. Please be aware of the cost to your body, and think in terms of the long run. Visit a website that has a number of current, proven weight loss plans to get into safe, long-term action. Today is the first day of the rest of your Life. Good Health!

What Do You Know About Body Shape, Image And Weight?
Body shape, image and weight are closely related to one another. Today these topics are popular amongst the teenagers. They always desire to look in perfect shape but lack the knowledge of terms like obesity, overweight, underweight, nutrition and good health. So, let’s learn the three main concepts namely Body shape, Image and Weight in detail. Body Shape Types of body shape- We believe that there are two basic body shapes ‘apple’ and ‘pear’.
1. Apple shape- This shape is generally found in males. In females apple shape treads in during their middle age especially after menopause. For people who are apple shaped, fat deposit around abdomen, chest and surrounding internal organs. These people have higher risk of diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure and gall bladder disease. The advantage for apple shaped people is that they easily reduce fat.
2. Pear shape- Pear shaped people store fat on their hips and thighs. As much fat is stored below the waistline, pear shaped people do not have the risk of health problems like diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure etc. But pear shaped people have more difficulty losing weight.
Determining body shape- Follow one of these methods to determine your body shape.
• Mirror image- Stand in front of a full-length mirror, preferably nude and see you in the mirror. Look where the majority of excess weight falls and determine whether you are apple or pear shaped.
• Tape measure- Measure your waist just above the hipbone while you exhale. Ideal waist measure for women is 35 inches or below and for men is 40 inches or below. If you are not in this standard then you are pear shaped.
• Waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) - This is the ratio of waist measure and hip measure. Ideal WHR for women is 0.8 or below and for men it is 1.0 or below. If you are in this range you are apple shaped otherwise you fall in the pear shaped list.
Generally people think that fat is an inert material and they always want to get rid of it, but this is wrong. Fat is adipose tissue which acts like activity tissue for breathing, hormone production and metabolic activities. It helps to regulate body functions properly by chemically communicating with central nervous system. So know that fat is not always waste material.
Fat nature of Apple and Pear shaped people - The difference between apple and pear shaped people lies in the type of fat and where it is located. There are two types of fat, ‘subcutaneous’ and ‘visceral’. Subcutaneous fat lies under the skin and visceral fat lies on soft organs in the abdomen. Subcutaneous fat is visible but visceral fat is not visible from outside.
Visceral fat lies on intestines, kidneys, pancreas and liver. Visceral fat is essential for our body because it protects our internal organs from various shocks such as trauma. It also acts as an insulator to conserve body heat. Visceral fat in excess amount is harmful to the body. It decreases insulin sensitivity, increases triglycerides, decreases levels of HDL cholesterol, creates more inflammation, raises blood pressure and increases the risk of heart problem.
Subcutaneous fat protects our body from various diseases. It also helps maintain a steady balance of triglycerides in the blood.
Body Image
It is the physical picture of our body. Body image involves our perception, imagination, emotions and physical sensations of our body. Body image is not static. It changes according to ones mood and physical environment. In the modern fashionable world people want to achieve a perfect image. They take to dieting, self-starvation, weight loss diet pills, laxatives and exercise.
There is nothing called a Perfect body image. As long as you are fit and healthy and feel good about yourself and your physical appearance, you are maintaining your ideal body image.
Develop a perfect body image
1. Eat whenever you are hungry. 2. Stop comparing yourself with fashion models 3. Exercise regularly. 4. Work towards self acceptance and self forgiveness. 5. Change your self-talk.
Body Weight
For a healthy life it is important that you have a perfect body weight. Following table gives the perfect body weight for men and women-
Height_______________Weight in Pounds_____________ _______Small Frame_____Medium Frame____Large Frame _____Men____Women__Men___Women___Men__Women 5'02" 128-134 108-121 131-141 118-132 138-150 128-143 5'03" 130-136 111-124 133-143 121-135 140-153 131-147 5'04" 132-138 114-127 135-145 124-138 142-156 134-151 5'05" 134-140 117-130 137-148 127-141 144-160 137-155 5'06" 136-142 120-133 139-151 130-144 146-164 140-159 5'07" 138-145 123-136 142-154 133-147 149-168 143-163 5'08" 140-148 126-139 145-157 136-150 152-172 146-167 5'09" 142-151 129-142 151-163 139-153 155-176 149-170 5'10" 144-154 132-145 151-163 142-156 158-180 152-173 5'11" 146-157 135-148 154-166 145-159 161-184 155-176 6'0" 149-160 138-151 157-170 148-162 164-188 158-179
If you need to lose weight to reach a comfortable body image or shape, do it with exercise, weight loss pills, natural supplements or dieting. For weight gain, make changes in your diet. The three vital ingredients Body shape, Image and Weight reflects your personality. So take an effort and make yourself comfortable with your shape, image and weight.

Do You Want A Sexy Perky Butt?
How to build sexy perky butts and buns? Do you know that whether you are a guy or a gal, one of your anatomies that are constantly being scrutinized is your butt? Many do say that a perky butt is one of the most attractive part of a human body. And don't you think it is? Certainly so! Take a look at your own buns right now. Is it tight perky and strong or is it saggy and lumpy? Worse, is it without any tone and just hangs there like a piece of flesh just out from the butcher store? If you really want a tight and sexy butt that make heads turn when you are in a pair of tight jeans or in your bikini, read on. Your butt consist of three muscles, the gluteus maximus, gluteus medius and gluteus minimus. The gluteus medius and gluteus minimus are the muscles on the sides of the hip that are used for the internal rotation of the thigh. The gluteus maximus is the largest of the three muscles and is used for hip extension, outward rotation, leg adduction and leg abduction. These muscles are collectively called the "Glutes".
Strong glutes helps us in our daily activities like climbing stairs or squating to pick sonething besides looking good and sexy. These muscles are essential in sports activities. Strong glutes will power your participation in any sport, like cycling and especially in jumping sports such as football, volleyball, soccer, basketball and net ball.
If your glute is hanging and lump then there is a layer of fats covering the muscles. If that is the case, its simple. Just lose the fats by a combination of cardio, weight resistance exercises and a clorie restriction diet.
To have great looking strong glutes, weight resistant exercises must be included in your workout routines. For some people, exercises such as running up slopes, stair-master or step climbing will have good effect in shaping the buns. But to have that perky sexy butt, you will have to incorporate Squats, Dead lifts and Lunges which are fantastic butt shapers. All these exercises are described and picture illustrated in my ebooks "Burn Fat Build Muscles Fast".
So in a nutshell, you need to lose fats and build a well muscled glute in order to own a sexy perky butt that make heads turn and eyes glued to your bottom posterity. That isn't difficult. All you need is some commitment and determination on your part and you are already half way there.

The Cause Of Bad Breath On Low Carb Diets
"> The latest dieting craze has no doubt been the low carb high protein diets. Those of you on Atkins, South Beach etc will no doubt have noticed a number of changes since you took up the diet. And no I’m not talking about the remarkable weight loss I am talking about your bad breath. Now it may not have been noticeable to you but I suggest you ask your friends or relatives whether there has been a detioration and you may be surprised by the answer. In fact you may even find your friends moving away from you when you speak which is always a sure sign of bad breath. So what’s the cause of all this bad air? Well depending on which medical speak you speak with there are a number, yet similar, reasons for the problem. One of the reasons is directly related to the increase in protein which most of the low carb diets advocate.
Basically, we all have a large number of useful bacteria living mainly on our tongue and at the back of our throat. These bacteria are supposed to be there, because they assist humans in digestion by breaking down proteins found in specific foods, mucous or phlegm, blood, and in diseased or "broken-down" oral tissue.
When these "beneficial" bacteria come into contact with these compounds, the odorous and "lousy-tasting" volatile sulfur compounds (VSCs’) are released from the back of the tongue and throat, as Hydrogen Sulphide, Methyl Mercaptan, and other odorous and bad tasting compounds.
Since the bacteria are meant to be in our mouth there is no way we can remove them permanently. So, no amount of brushing or tongue scraping will get rid of the VSCs’. The only scientifically proven way of curing your bad breath (Halitosis) is by attacking the bacteria's ability to produce VSCs’ and by converting the VSC into non-odorous and non-tasting organic salts.
There are a number of ways in which the problem is worsened and the most common way is with dry mouth. This generally occurs while you are asleep and hence the reason you sometimes wake up with “morning breath”.
Although some cases of dry mouth are naturally occurring, most cases are caused by one of these factors:
1. Prescription Medications (usually prescribed for high blood pressure or depression) 2. Antihistamines 3. Adult Beverages 4. Mouthwashes with alcohol in them
When your mouth is dryer, you have less Saliva. Saliva naturally contains Oxygen, which keeps your mouth healthy and fresh. These bacteria are anaerobic, which simply means that they will thrive and make more sulfur in the presence of little or no oxygen. Thus if you have less Saliva, you have less oxygen, thereby creating an anaerobic environment, perfect for the bacteria to produce more of these odorous and sour/bitter compounds.
Because of the increase in higher protein foods, on an Atkins type diet, especially dairy products, the amount of Volatile Sulfur Compounds increases dramatically and as such your breath gets worse accordingly. The only way to fight the problem is to try and supply oxygen to the bacteria causing the problem and remove as much of the VSCs’ as possible. This can be done in a number of ways:
· Drink loads of water. This will help ensure your tongue and throat are kept moist and supplying oxygen to the VSC producing bacteria.
· Always clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner before brushing your teeth last thing at night and first thing in morning. You should also try and do this after every meal too.
· Use a mouthwash which does not contain any alcohol as alcohol can dry your mouth and make the problem worse. You can also dramatically improve matters by using an oxygenating mouthwash. You can find one by doing a Google on “oxygenating mouthwash”.
· Don’t chew gum, which contains sugar, to try and mask the bad breath. This can make matters worse. Use a sugar free gum instead.
The bottom line is that low carb diets will cause bad breath, although for some it will be a lot worse than others. However, help is at hand so if you want to shed the weight and not shed any friends then make sure and heed the advice given above.

10:23 AM,
Thats funny, I actually did the lowcarb diet for many years and found that my breath wasn't that bad unless I ate spicy foods.
Although, I suppose there is alot of evidence in this, I read an article at www.medsocial.com that said similar findings, but pointed at the oils and fats being excreated in the mouth and tongue.

That's funny. Who would have thought that out of all problems, bad breath would have been one of them.
I had tried the low carb high-protein diet and my breath was fine also. However, I did supplement some protein food with sports nutrition and that may have helped with the breath!

I read about a natural fat replacement ingredient called Z Trim on page 90 of the book “You on a Diet” by Oprah’s doctor, Mehmet Oz. I ordered off of the Z Trim web site and have been cooking with it for a few weeks now. It works and its easy. It lowers calories by replacing portions of the oils, butter, and other fats. It also adds fiber to foods, because it basically is corn fiber made into a gel that works like fat in most cooking. They say it is undetectable, and that’s true. My cooking tastes like it always did. I’ve lost some weight, slowly. It’s a sensible approach and its natural. I eat what I want; it tastes as good as it always did, and I’m finally “right-sizing” my body. A total win-win.

Three Year Milestone On My Weight Loss Journey
December marks another anniversary of my quest to lose weight. I am happy.... no.... I am ecstatic to report that within the last three years I have successfully lost 68 pounds and maintained it! When I first started on this quest I weighed 185 pounds. It was hard taking the first baby steps in getting into a lifestyle change, but with the help of Health A to Z diet journal, I was able to take it day by day. I was also on a strict Atkins meal program and exercised four times a week. It was so hard at first, trying to balance it with my demanding job and personal life. There were so many times that I just wallowed in self pity due to my lack of positive body image. But like the little train that could, I just kept on chugging along and hopped right back in the bandwagon everytime I fell off.
I started this diet blog because I wanted to document all the changes that are happening in my life. That, and to store all the other diet information I found on the web that I found useful and relevant to my goal. Little did I know that this diet blog became a confessional for me. And I am very thankful for all the support that everyone has given me.
We all have our own personal reasons as to why we need to lose weight, whether it be for image, fashion, beauty, or health. Really, to tell you the truth, it started with just wanting to be able to wear that bikini that has been hanging in the closet for ages. But I have come to realize that it was just a push to get me started on my weight loss journey. This lifestyle change made a difference in my outlook on life. I love being healthy. I want to have a very productful life and enjoy life as it catches me. I want to be able to climb the highest mountain and dive in to the bottomless ocean.
Thank you!

Thank you very much Michael!
10:26 AM,
I lost over 140 pounds in the last few years, mainly on the low carb lifestyle, where I eliminated sugar and refined carbs from my diet. I found keeping a daily journal at a place like www.medsocial.com was very helpful, but having the support of family and friends was the most important thing!

Hi,
I think mathematics equation plays an important role in the success of dieting.
Make very sure your intake(food) is less than your output(energy). The rest is taken care of for sure.
Congratulations!

It really is amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it. I think that a low carb diet is probably the hardest one out there. The craving for sugar is so taken for granted by all of us - IMO.
Well done everyone for achieving their goals (or hitting the 'milestones' as they call them).
I personally now need to build some muscle! And it's not as easy as it sounds....
